Labor
Day! Summer’s done, no more fun. Don’t bet
on it. In Northwest New Jersey, the fun just begins to
crank up to speed in September. The weeks ahead will
be packed with events, so keep an eye on our calendar and watch out for our virtual efforts to keep you informed.

25th Anniversary Scandinavian
Fest
The
25th annual Smörgåsbord of Family
Fun unfolds on Sunday, September 6 at Vasa Park in Budd
Lake. The largest Nordic festival on the East coast, the
Scandinavian Fest is
an all-day outdoor event (entertainment covered) celebrating
the food, crafts, arts, traditions and current life
of the Nordic countries of Denmark, Estonia, Finland,
Iceland, Norway, and Sweden. In all, Fest ‘09 offers
37 performances on 4 stages for adults & children
-- performing groups, music & dance, talks, and more.
Speical performers include The
Swedish Troubadours, Dave
Kaminsky, Mock Turtle marionettes, Eric Olsen’s
Jazz Quartet, Ruth
Ann Cunningham,
Magnus
Mårtensson, Julane
Lund, Laura
Aihkisalo,
and Daughters of Scandinavia.
Seventeen
food vendors offer the traditional popular (and some
not-so-familiar) dishes as well as those delicious Nordic
desserts, plus lots more to enjoy with beer and other
beverages. And there is an extensive Nordic Marketplace
of fifty-four specialized vendors who offer Nordic handicrafts,
traditional folk and contemporary dress, and modern
Nordic gifts ranging from knickknacks to lush Icelandic
sweaters and elaborate decorative furnishings, artwork,
and jewelry.
Rain
or shine, 10am - 6pm. $14/ $13 seniors, those wearing
authentic Nordic regional folkdress and children 12 & under
are free. 12 and
under. ScanFest is
easy to find. Simply follow US Route 46 West off X-25
from I-80 in NJ for 3 miles to the first light past
Budd Lake. Left onto Wolfe Rd and 1/4 mile to Vasa Park
at 1 Wolfe Road on the right. (map)

Sporting Art
This weekend (Saturday, Sunday and
Monday) presents a rare opportunity to meet some of
America’s most acclaimed wildlife and sporting
artists at the Decoys
and Wildlife Gallery in Frenchtown.
The Annual
Wildlife and Sporting Art Show features
paintings and carvings by over 20 renowned artists,

up the road from Frenchtown, in Flemington, the annual
Labor Day Weekend Sale at Liberty
Village Premium Outlets offers extra
discounts on top of everyday savings of 25%-65%.
Stores will have specially marked merchandise and
clearance items outside. There is also musical entertainment
scheduled for Saturday and Monday.
If
you want to do your Labor Day saving in Sussex County,
Sidewalk Sales Days begin on Thursday at Olde
Lafayette Village. And on Sundays, the shopping
village features one of the area's largest farmers

Garlic Festival, a mix of aromatic
and tasty foods liberally laced a variety of Pocono-grown
entertainment.With two outdoor stages, a children's

live music & "garlic themed" novelty shows
