Weekend Journey Through The Past
The
Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission,
in conjunction with local historical organizations, will
hold the fourth annual Weekend Journey Through The Past
on October 10-11. During the two-day period, twenty-seven
of the County's significant historic sites will be open
to the public; many with special exhibits and programs
planned for the occasion. The tour not only verifies
the area's designation as the "Crossroads of the
American Revolution", but also promises a fascinating
look into Somerset's agricultural and industrial history,
as well as its cultural fabric. Visitors may follow a
scenic route, with driving directions prepared for each
of three sections in the County—northern,
central, and southern—or choose the sites that
intrigue them most and drive from one to the next at
a leisurely pace. More...
You
can enter contests for prizes from the convenience
of your home by computer following your weekend visits
to several of this year’s featured historic house
museums/sites. Admission and parking at each site
are FREE. For details about participating sites and contest
entries, please check
the event web site, www.SCHistoryWeekend.com

Art in Flight
The
renowned illustrator aviation artist, Gil Cohen will
appear at the
Decoys
and Wildlife Gallery in Frenchtown on
Sunday, October 11 to introduce and sign copies of the
newly released book about his life and work. Cohen's
work can be found at the John F. Kennedy Center for
the Performing Arts in Washington, DC, and the Pentagon,
as well as in other important public and private collections.
His more recent paintings vividly depict the human aspects
of America's wars, showing soldiers and aviators in
battle and at rest. One of Cohen's recurring observations
is that, unfortunately, some of humankind's most remarkable
feats of engineering are often created for the purpose
of war. Click or

Living In Color
The
annual fall foliage bloom is dependent primarily on moisture
and the first frost, but peak leaf viewing in Northwest
New Jersey normally occurs somewhere around the middle
of October. The leaves are just beginning to turn
in the northern reaches of Sussex County and in the higher
elevations. Here are several foliage tours for your pleasure
this fall:
If you've got suggestions about great places to leaf peep, please post your comments here!
